Architecture stepped out of studios and into public life at the recent Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF) 2026 launch held at RexKL, setting the tone for a year-long celebration of design, culture and community. Organised by the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), KLAF 2026 – themed "Future Culture" – positions architecture as not just a professional discipline but a shared cultural language shaped by memory, identity and everyday experience.

Mulasemula XXXVII Architectural Student Workshop 2026 is an architectural student workshop organized by the Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), in collaboration with archis@ and supported by the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM).
The workshop provides an intensive platform for architecture students to explore ideas, develop design thinking, and respond creatively to architectural challenges through collaborative learning, experimentation, and hands-on design activities.

Apple has unveiled its first retail store in Malaysia, a stunning building designed by Foster + Partners. Completed within Kuala Lumpur’s rapidly developing Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Apple The Exchange TRX has opened to become a luminous focal point for the area with its unique layered rooftop. This three-dimensional, stepping roof structure creates a visual and spatial bridge between the mall’s central atrium and a rooftop park. Lush greenery and a communal lawn wrap around the new apple store‘s upper level, lending a transition between nature and the built space.

Fosters picked up an award for its DY Patil Centre of Excellence in Maharashtra, India; Caruso St John for the Royale Belge multi-use building in Brussels; while Chipperfields won for its Rockbund redevelopment in Shanghai. Winners of the biennial award also include projects by O’Donnell + Tuomey, BIG, Snøhetta, WOHA and FJCstudio – the Sydney-based practice that has twice won the World Architecture Festival’s top honour. The RIBA said the winning schemes ‘demonstrated how thoughtful design can positively impact everyday life’ by addressing issues relating to climate, migration, housing, rapid urbanisation or infrastructure.

“The (Urban Redevelopment) Authority repeatedly said, ‘This is our icon; our people of Singapore love this, and we cannot do anything that’s going to compromise it,” said Israeli architect Moshe Safdie, referencing the country’s urban planning agency. “And that was very much on our minds, as well: How to make something that has its own identity but is very complementary.”

Nestle — a loose homonym of “nacelle,” the part of a wind turbine containing its engine — is made from a decommissioned, 20-year-old V80 2MW turbine donated by Business of Wind, a Dutch company that purchases used turbines for reuse.
Marking the first time a nacelle has ever been used for housing, the Dutch building code-compliant home is an ambitious demonstration of the possibilities of upcycling, says Jos de Krieger, co-founder of Blade-Made, the company behind the project.
