Alor Gajah Bungalow
This private bungalow residence in Alor Gajah, Melaka, is a striking example of Modern Tropical Cubism. The design breaks away from traditional suburban forms, opting instead for a bold, staggered silhouette that emphasizes verticality and sophisticated spatial layering.
Architectural Design & Form
-
Staggered Roof Planes: The most defining feature is the series of dramatic, cantilevered flat roofs set at varying heights. These deep overhangs are essential for the Melaka climate, providing significant passive shading and protection against heavy tropical rainfall while creating a dynamic, rhythmic profile.
-
Vertical Volumes: The building is composed of tall, slender rectangular blocks. These double-volume sections feature extensive floor-to-ceiling glazing, allowing for grand, light-filled interiors that maintain a constant visual connection to the outdoors.
-
Asymmetrical Balance: The "L-shaped" or staggered arrangement of the units allows for private pockets of space between the structures, ensuring that each wing of the house feels independent yet connected to the central living core.
